Students from post-secondary institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean are given short-term exchange opportunities to study or conduct research at post-secondary institutions in Canada through the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Programme (ELAP) scholarships. Emerging Leaders in the Americas Scholarship
With the help of the Emerging Leaders in the Americas Programme (ELAP) scholarships, students from post-secondary institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean can travel to Canada for brief periods of time to study or do research at the college, undergraduate, or graduate levels.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates need to be residents of one of the following nations or territories in order to be considered: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, Bolivia, Brazil, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Saint.
1. Must be fully enrolled in a post-secondary university in an eligible nation at the time of application and for the whole exchange period, paying any tuition expenses mandated by that institution.
2. Applicants must be pursuing undergraduate or graduate studies in a field that aligns with their leadership goals.

Additionally, candidates must have a strong academic record, fluency in English, and exhibit exceptional leadership potential through their extracurricular activities or community involvement.
Benefits of ELAS
Students who are awarded the scholarship will receive one of the following amounts: 1. CAD 8,200 for college, undergraduate, or graduate (Master’s and PhD) students for a period of four months or one academic term of study; or 2. CAD 11,100 for graduate students (Master’s and PhD) for a period of five to six months of research.
