What Is the Commonwealth Startup Fellowship?
The fellowship runs for six months and is designed to support high-potential startups from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries. It blends immersive in-person bootcamps with online learning to give founders practical skills, industry knowledge, and access to a global entrepreneurial network.
Delivered in partnership with Imperial College London, the program aims to help entrepreneurs scale their businesses and create jobs in their home countries by the end of the fellowship.
Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the 2026/27 Commonwealth Startup Fellowship, applicants must:
- Hold at least a graduate-level qualification
- Be a citizen or recognized refugee of an eligible low- or middle-income Commonwealth country
- Be permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country
- Be fluent in written and spoken English
- Not have held a Commonwealth Professional Fellowship within the past five years
- Be available to start the fellowship on the official start date
Applicants must also demonstrate:
- Innovation in their product, service, or market approach
- At least six months of active development with committed team members
- A working minimum viable product (MVP), service, or prototype
- Evidence of traction — early sales, pre-sales, signed contracts, or proven customer demand
